One reason people get addicted to sugar that it temporarily increases serotonin levels in the brain–a short term boost in mood.
For a long term increase in serotonin production in the brain, stay with high quality whole food protein and complex carbohydrates. Foods that can be eaten to increase serotonin levels include bananas and walnuts.
