How To Shop At A Farmers Market

46 Percent Increase In Ten Years

It pays to review a few simple tips about how to shop at the Farmers Market. The idea is to leave with the freshest produce at the best prices, and only buy what you will actually use.

According to 2010 US Dept. of Agriculture figures, there are over 6,000 farmers markets operating in the United States. In the ten year period from 2000 to 2010 there was a 46% increase in US farmers market numbers.

This is the best way to support surrounding farms for urban and suburban dwellers. The food is of course, in season, not wrapped in excess plastic, not shipped from across the country, and not full of toxins.

Remember, people have 10 times more conversations at Farmers Markets than in the supermarket! Taste the samples, meet your farmers, chat with everyone and enjoy this time honored way of buying real food.
