Everybody is sure you should drink lots and lots and lotS of water to be healthy.

Here’s the way the advice goes:

“Drink water even when you are not thirsty because you can’t rely on your own sense of thirst.”

Really?

Does that make sense?

Is there a downside to force-feeding yourself excessive amounts of water?

You bet there is.
