Horse meat and pork in beef burgers

Food fraud in the UK

We’ve posted several reports about food fraud in the US. But the problem is global.

A recent Food Standards Agency Ireland report highlighted a problem in the food industry.

A total of 27 beef products were analysed, and 23 of them contained unlabeled pork and horse meat.

Not only would many people cringe at eating horse meat, a significant number reject pork products for religious reasons. Even for those who might chose pork, trichinosis cases have come from undercooked burgers containing pork.

This is a major failure to maintain product integrity.
