Have you ever noticed how many people you know simply adore processed meats like bacon, sausage, and deli meats, and wouldn’t dream of giving them up?
Well, researchers in Sweden have been examining this affection closely and have identified a potential connection between the consumption of processed meat and an increased risk of pancreatic cancer.
According to findings from the Karolinska Institute, the risk of developing this disease rises by 19 percent for every 50 grams of processed meat consumed daily – that’s equivalent to just two rashers of bacon. What’s even more concerning is that each additional portion escalates the risk, meaning that consuming 100 grams effectively doubles the percentage of danger.
While pancreatic cancer is considered rare, it’s often only detected in its advanced stages, leading to the unfortunate fact that 80 percent of those diagnosed with it don’t survive beyond a year.
