In the 1980s, 60+ years after the “Great Flu of 1918”, the NIH funded a research gold rush of papers to “prove” that the 1920s estimate of 20 million global deaths was wrong.
Long story short: They upgraded it to 50 million – with no new data, “just because.”
But that wasn’t good enough. Then a cottage industry of shills like Douglas Brinkkey decided the real number was probably 100 million – based on nothing.
Guess what?
